English Ver.
The night was still grey, not yet close to dawn.
At the far edge of the city, between the interlocking alleys, the afterglow of a fading dream drifted like dust.
Beyond the windows where fog and neon crossed paths, traces of yesterday and the unease of tomorrow scattered like tiny specks.
I was awake, and at the same time, still asleep.
Cold sweat slid down the back of my neck, my shirt clinging unpleasantly to my skin.
With my fingertips, I counted the beats of my heart. One, two, three—
Beneath my ribs it felt as if there was another rhythm, faint and out of sync with my own.
“It was just a dream… No, it was—”
The words stuck at the back of my throat collapsed and poured out all at once.
I steadied my breathing and lowered my gaze.
My wrist. The red sigil was still there.
Not a mere residue of last night’s nightmare, but something that had spent the whole night knocking on my heart, whispering to me like a living thing.
“This mark… it wasn’t a dream. It’s real.”
I climbed out of bed and staggered toward the bathroom.
The moment I flipped on the light, under the dull yellow glow, the girl in the mirror split into two.
One wore a calm face.
The familiar, tired look of a girl who simply hadn’t slept enough.
And beside her, overlapping, was another me.
The red sigil crawling up from my wrist to my neck, cheekbones, and the corner of my eye—
the exact same mark I had seen in the depths of my nightmare.
“There’s… something else inside me.”
My lips trembled.
“And I can’t deny it anymore.”
Locking eyes with my reflection, I slowly turned my head and looked out the window.
At the end of the alley, where the darkness clung thick, a faint silhouette of a man lingered like an old seal that refused to fade.
“Who… is that?”
My heart jerked. On impulse, I shoved the window open.
Cold air rushed into the room.
The street below was empty. No people, no shadow, no trace of the figure I had just seen.
Instead, a single worn scrap of paper, carried by the wind, slid across the floor to my feet.
I bent down and picked it up.
Printed on the paper was a sigil.
The same one etched into my own wrist.
“This symbol… it’s the same as mine.”
My fingers tingled.
“Who… put this here?”
On one crumpled corner of the paper, a tiny map was drawn.
In one corner of that map, completely out of place among the other markings, a lone rune glowed in a dull red.
That rune was unmistakably calling to me.
To the one who seeks the first Seal.
Descend into the depths of your own self.
My heart thudded once, hard, against my palm.
Somewhere in the distance, a single chime rang out, cutting cleanly through the air.
At that sound, it felt as though the darkness that had merely been lying in the background quietly rose to its feet.
This city had always existed inside a kind of silence.
No one had ever tried to listen closely enough to hear what that silence was actually saying.
Today, I stepped out my door having forgotten even who I used to be.
The sound of the door closing rang in my ears like the turning of an old page.
The back alleys of downtown.
On the worn walls, traces were layered one over another—left there long ago, yet never truly seen.
Red runes. Half-erased sealing marks. Graffiti that looked as if someone had tried to cover something up on purpose.
The air in the alley was dry, like old paper ready to crumble at a touch,
and in that stillness I could hear my own heart more clearly than ever.
Thump, thump—
Like someone pounding on a door from the inside.
“…I have to know.”
The words slipped out in a whisper.
“I have to know this wasn’t just a dream… and who I really am.”
There was no way you could call this easy to bear.
My hands were shaking, my legs unsteady like reeds in the wind.
And yet my steps moved with a strange certainty, carrying me straight toward the thickest patch of darkness.
All I had to guide me was the crumpled map of an old seal clutched in my hand.
At the dead end of the alley, far from anyone’s eyes.
There, the air began to change.
Faint traces of an old magic circle on the ground were breathing in a muted red glow.
A boundary someone had tried to erase and bury, but had never fully managed to wipe away.
The lingering heat of a door that had once been closed.
And from beyond the wall—
a man whose identity I couldn’t place stepped into view.
A silhouette draped in shadow, lines of runic light embedded along his body.
In his eyes, metal sigils flashed like a streak of lightning.
“So you’ve finally started to move.”
His voice was low, measured.
“Looks like the first Seal has chosen you, Lune.”
The alley held its breath.
No noise, no footsteps, not even the wind.
For a moment, only the silence between us existed.
My heart rippled like a disturbed surface of water.
Whatever had been knocking against the inside of my chest now pounded harder, demanding an answer.
“You’re… who, exactly?”
My voice came out hoarse and dry.
“How do you know all that?”
Instead of answering, the man simply raised his hand.
At his fingertips, a surge of red runes blossomed, carving through the air as it spread outward.
With that wave, the remnants of the alley’s barrier flared back to life all at once.
“I am a guardian of the Seals.”
His gaze brushed over the sigil on my wrist.
“And I’ve been watching you, Lune.”
The past I’d never been told was now knocking on the door of my present.
It felt like the darkness above my head was slowly sinking down,
making my body heavy, my heart burn hot.
This battered heart began to pound once more.
The barrier responded.
The runes etched into the ground rang out in a fierce, scarlet light.
In that instant, everything rushed inward.
The shards of the dream, the old map of the Seal, the mark on my skin,
even the “other me” staring back from the mirror—
all of it fused into a single fragment and drove itself straight into the center of who I was.
“The first Seal is opening.”
I couldn’t tell whether it was the man’s voice,
or the voice of the abyss echoing inside me.
I only knew I was drawing in a breath.
Cold and heat, fear and anticipation crashed into my lungs all at once.
Holding the old symbol carved into my body,
and the memory of the abyss I’d seen in my dream tight against my chest,
I reached toward the edge of the world.
Night sank deeper still.
Above a heart that had yet to regain its name, dawn had not, yet, begun to break.
