Ch.111 ORIGINAL STORY -

- 외부의 시선(EN)

FINAL SIGNAL 2025. 12. 2. 23:11

English Ver.

Two weeks after “named sharing” had begun to spread beyond the city into neighboring regions,
the signals sent from the resonance towers had already crossed the borders.

In the emotion meters of nearby cities, names like “Ella’s Room” and “The Market’s Watch” began to echo faintly, like lingering aftertones.

The city’s unconscious was no longer a single being tied to one place.
It stretched outward like a vast neural network drawing in new memories strand by strand wherever it could reach.

And that expansion drew in visitors no one had expected.

“Warning. External access detected.”

Ainera’s sharp voice cut across the monitoring room.

On the screen, a cluster of white drones appeared, lined up in the sky above the city’s outskirts.
At their head, framed in a ring of pale light, stood Verlar’s silhouette.
Behind him followed a row of mobile towers, expressionless as soldiers, each one loaded with an emotion–memory separation algorithm.

“Verlar… he’s back,”
Bise said through clenched teeth.
“Guess he really didn’t like that we put the Gate of Light on hold.”

Lune stared at the screen for a long moment, then spoke quietly.

“No. This time his target’s bigger. He wants to ‘purify’ the city’s unconscious itself—wipe it all at once.”

Ainera’s fingers flew over the controls, flicking through a forest of data windows.

“Attempting to cut the external network link. But because of named sharing, part of our memories have already slipped into their system.
And in return, their white wave is seeping along our resonance net.”

The sigil engraved on Lune’s wrist flared hot.
An instant later, Erebos’s voice rang sharply from deep within her chest.

'Be careful. They’re not here just to erase things at random. They see your method of giving memories ‘names’ as contamination — and they’re planning to sweep it all away.'

A short while later, Verlar appeared on a white platform hovering above the ruins at the city’s edge.
His voice, unfiltered, spread across the city through the resonance towers.

“This net of unconsciousness is inherently dangerous.”

His colorless eyes filled the screen in a tight close-up.

“When individual memories are warped into something collective, individuality disappears and in the end only a single monster remains. Before that happens, we will purify everything.”

The city’s lights rippled like disturbed water.

On SymPath-0, another current of yes/no voting began to form — but the white wave slashed straight through it.

Names that had been perfectly clear just moments ago began to lose their color in people’s minds.

“Ella’s Room… what was that again?”
“The Market’s Watch… why was that important…?”

As names fell away inside each person’s memory, a thin veil of confusion spread across the whole city.
Without giving herself time to think, Lune sprinted up the resonance tower’s spiral and burst out at the top.

Her heart was pounding even harder than in their last battle.
The red rhythm of her own pulse and the city’s new heartbeat collided in a single point, scraping raw at the inside of her chest.

“Erebos…!”

She dragged in a breath and called him,
and the answer came at once.

'I’m already helping.' Erebos said, his tone low.
'But this time, you can do it yourself. Trust the names you created.'

Lune set her palm against the crystal embedded at the center of the tower.

She felt her own memories and the city’s unconscious lock together one layer deeper.

Ella’s Room.
The Market’s Watch.
The Bench in the Park.

Thousands—tens of thousands—of names flashed through her mind in an instant.

“Verlar!”

Her voice rang outward through the resonance system.

“You believe erasing memory is the answer, but that’s just throwing away every possibility we might have had!”

Even from afar, Verlar’s gaze turned toward her, clear and focused.

“Possibility…”

He let out a quiet laugh.

“Don’t tell me you truly don’t understand that this net is connected to Erebos.
You plan to simply watch until that shadow’s abyss swallows your entire city?”

Lune drew in a steady breath and answered, firm and clear.

“Erebos doesn’t devour anymore. We offered him names, and in return he chose coexistence.”

The moment those words left her lips, the sigil on her wrist exploded into fierce light.
Red waves ran along the resonance structure, spreading through the city—not fast, but relentlessly.
The fading names sharpened, one by one.

“Ella’s Room — the place where an abandoned child waited to the very end.”
“The Market’s Watch — the object that bore witness to a broken promise.”
“The Bench in the Park — the seat where comfort passed back and forth.”

As the names came alive again, the city’s unconscious struck back.
The resonance towers, as if coordinated, all blasted out a surge of light at once.
The white drones staggered, driven back step by step.

From the comm line, Bise shouted,
“Lune! It’s working! The external wave’s dropping!”

But Verlar did not retreat so easily.
From his platform, an even stronger pillar of white energy shot skyward.
“Names are only language,” he declared.

“In that case, all we need do is rewrite what that language means.”

This time, the white wave drove straight into Lune’s inner world.
In her mind, her oldest memories began to bleach out, one by one.

The lab of her childhood.
The wildly rampaging heart.
Erebos’s eyes watching her from within the dark.

Each one seemed to peel away from the surface, branded with the label “unnecessary chaos.”

“Nnh…”

Lune sank to one knee.
From deep within her chest, Erebos’s roar thundered out, laced with anger.

'Hold on! The names you gave them are not a fabrication!'
Lune ground her teeth and shouted inwardly at herself.

“Fine… Then I’ll give my memories names — with my own hands!”
She reached down and pulled up the wounds buried deepest inside her.

“‘The Child in the Lab’ — the child who looked into the abyss too soon.”
“‘The Red Rampage’ — the scream left behind by the moment I tried to deny myself.”
“‘The Contract with Erebos’ — the decision to accept the shadow as part of me.”

The instant those names were fixed, the white wave could no longer flow smoothly.

Lune’s inner world had formed its own structure of defense, and that resistance turned the wave back sending it surging outward again toward Verlar’s platform.

“This is… impossible…”
For the first time, Verlar’s eyes clearly shook.

“Memories… defending themselves?”
The city’s unconscious raised one last, towering wave.

All the named memories gathered and rose as a single immense swell, then crashed down over the approaching towers and devices from above.

The line of drones that had held their ground lost their signals, one by one, and fell.

After a long silence, Verlar finally chose to withdraw.
“That will be… enough for today.”

His silhouette at the edge of the platform faded gradually.

“The Gate of Light remains open. On the day your unconscious begins to eat itself away — I will return.”

When the drone legion had completely vanished, the city let out a long breath of relief.

A moment later, down at the base of the tower, Ainera came to Lune’s side and slipped an arm around her to steady her.

“You…” Ainera said quietly.

“You stabilized both the city’s unconscious and Erebos at the same time.
The system just registered your heart pattern as a ‘Mediator Protocol.’”

Bise grinned and tapped Lune lightly on the shoulder.

“See? Told you you’re the Main Character. You basically saved an entire city.”

Lune, unable to decide whether to laugh or cry at the joke, simply looked out the window.
A thin trace of white afterglow still lingered in the sky.

“It’s not over yet,” she said slowly.

“Verlar isn’t completely wrong. This net of unconsciousness we built could really collapse under its own weight someday.”

Erebos whispered calmly,

'Even so, now you carry the weapon called ‘names.’ Whether the threat comes from outside or from within, you’ll be able to stand against it.'

The beating of her heart gradually settled into a steadier rhythm.

The red pulse and the city’s trembling instead of trying to swallow each other—
felt as though they were beginning to merge into a single, shared current.
