FINAL SIGNAL 2025. 12. 3. 09:44

English Ver.

Five days after Verlar’s invasion had been driven back, the city passed its nights much as it always had—at least on the surface.

Beneath that surface, on a level no eye could see, something entirely different was unfolding.

The city’s unconscious was no longer just a network that tied memories together.
Each named memory had begun to recognize the others, rearranging itself on its own,

and at the far end of that process, something faintly like a “self” had started to form.

Every night, the resonance towers exhaled light that spread like a dream.
While they slept, people found themselves sharing a single dream no one had ever agreed upon out loud.

Who are we?
Where are we going?

Those questions seeped into their minds without taking the shape of words, and by morning, only a vague aftertaste remained.

At the exact center of this change, as always, stood Lune.

Her heart was now almost completely synchronized with the city’s pulse.
Through the palm she rested on her wrist, it was becoming harder and harder to tell whether what she felt was her own heartbeat, or the far-off echo of millions of hearts beating at the same time.

“Lune, let’s check the city’s status.”

At the top of the resonance tower, beside the wind-swept railing, Ainera pulled up a scanning hologram.

Soft red beams passed over Lune’s chest.
On the virtual display, two heart rhythms appeared, overlapping.

One clear, crimson beat. And behind it, a faint wave that seemed to wrap around the entire city.

“Synchronization… eighty-seven percent,”
Ainera muttered, enlarging the data window.

“This is the price you paid for stabilizing the city’s unconscious. But at this level… it’s also a warning sign.”

Arms folded, Bise frowned.
“Warning? I thought you said things were finally calming down.”

“They’re not calming down. They’re over-connected,”
Ainera replied, bringing up a new chart.

“Right now, the city’s unconscious doesn’t see Lune as just a ‘mediator.’
It’s recognizing her as a part of itself — a ‘fragment of self.’”

Lune glanced down at the sigil on her wrist without thinking.

Within the red pattern, fine new lines had appeared that hadn’t been there before — tiny points of light arranged like constellations, resembling the city’s nightscape.

Then it happened.

The crystal set in the middle of the tower began to glow on its own, without any input.

Thousands of scattered whispers in the air slowly drew together, weaving themselves into a single voice.

*Lune…You called us.
You gave us names, and opened the door.

Now, we will be the ones to ask you.*
Lune’s vision wavered.

In an instant, the memories of the entire city surged into her mind.

Ella’s Room.
The Market’s Watch.
The Bench in the Park.

The wounds, promises, prayers, and regrets of countless people.

Catching her breath, Lune managed to speak.
“You’ve… started to have a self of your own.”

*We have,*

the city’s voice answered.

*The web you wove can now think for itself.
And we must decide.
Will we remain in ‘coexistence’—
or move toward ‘fusion’?*

Bise’s eyes flew wide. He turned to Ainera.
“Fusion? What’s that supposed to mean?”

Ainera quickly called up a fresh layer of analysis.
“Two paths the city’s unconscious is proposing.”

Simple lines appeared on the hologram.

[Coexistence: Maintain current state. Preserve individual boundaries.]
[Fusion: Fully merge Lune’s heart with the city’s unconscious. Erebos included.]

Lune’s chest thudded hard.

An instant later,Erebos’s voice came through, startlingly clear.

'Interesting. Now the city is demanding the same choice I once faced.'

Not ‘I will devour you,’
but ‘Let us become one.’

Clutching the railing, Lune barely kept her balance.

“If we fuse… what happens to me?”

The city’s voice rolled through the air, calm but deep.

*All memories will be bound into a single book.
The Book of Erebos.
Individual pain will no longer remain as ‘separate wounds.’
Within complete understanding, they will form the foundation of a new world.*

On the surface, it sounded like a smooth, flawless temptation.

But Lune saw the shadow behind it.

In a world where everything was absorbed into one story,
how clear could the outline of “I” really remain?

Each person’s name might end up treated as nothing more than a fragment in a single, colossal narrative.

“That’s… just disappearing,”
Lune said quietly.

“We didn’t give names just so they could be swallowed into one.”

The city’s murmur rippled, like a disturbed pool.
*Then will you choose coexistence?*

To remain in an endlessly unstable balance, accepting that collapse may come at any time?

Lune closed her eyes and sank deeper into herself.

In the darkness, a pair of red eyes - two and one at the same time - watched her in silence.

'It’s your choice,'
Erebos said.

'From the beginning, you’ve said it yourself.
Neither devouring nor complete merging was the answer.
You’ve always chosen the space ‘between’ the two.'

Lune opened her eyes.
She gave a short, firm nod.

Then pressed her hand more deeply onto the tower’s crystal.

“To the unconsciousness of this city,”

she said, her voice carrying like a declaration.

“I won’t choose fusion or simple coexistence.
What I choose is… ‘resonance.’”

A strong gust swept across the tower.

“A way of sounding farther, through each other, without swallowing each other whole.
That’s the path we’ve been walking all along.”
The entire resonance tower shuddered from within.

Below, the city lights flickered all at once with answer.

“Keep each name exactly as it is. But when those names call to each other, let them lend their strength for a while.
Even if they don’t blend into one, let them create a greater wave together.”
Ainera’s eyes widened.

“An intermediate protocol… The system’s constructing a new mode on its own.
Label: ‘Resonance Network.’”

Bise gave a small, disbelieving laugh and shook his head.
“Knew it. You went and carved another path.”

The wild pounding in Lune’s chest gradually began to ease.

The pulse of her red heart and the city’s unconscious no longer tried to swallow each other or overlap completely.

Instead, at a distance just close enough to touch, they began to resonate quietly.
The city’s voice returned, its tone softer than before.

*Understood. We choose the path of resonance.
Through your heart, we have learned this much:

that ‘existence’ does not have to disappear in order to be connected.*

In that moment, Lune felt something shift between herself and Erebos as well.

'Good,'
Erebos whispered with a low chuckle.

*Now it’s my turn to fully join your resonance.
The shadow of the abyss will sing together with the city’s light.*

A new line of light seeped into the sigil on her wrist.
In the middle of the red-filled pattern,a faint stroke of gold appeared.

She had avoided fusion—
but resonance had opened a door even deeper than that.

Now, Lune’s heart held three rhythms at once:

Lune herself.
Erebos.
And the city’s unconscious.
